NLB Group is one of the largest banking groups in Slovenia and the SEE markets. It employs 5.000
employees, and has 94 branch offices in Slovenia and 327 offices in the region. Špica has cooperated with NLB for two decades now. Its Time&Space system was used in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1996. The system was mostly used for time & attendance and simpler access control. In 2018, NLB sought to upgrade its system with new time modules for better time & attendance management, ERP integration, migration from Indala to HID iClass, Bluetooth mobile access, biometric access to high security areas, real-time monitoring and system management and the integration of intruder alarm and video management systems. One of the biggest challenges was the need to use old controllers (some of which were older than 15 years) with new frontend equipment like Bluetooth readers, iClass transformation and biometrics. All of the existing controllers were eventually kept in place, which significantly impacted the project’s budget. Today, all NLB branches in Bosnia and Herzegovina have state-of-the-art time and attendance systems, secure access control and great future outlook.

Grand Hotel Park in Rovinj

CASE STUDY

Maistra d.d. is the leading tourist company in Croatia which manages nine hotels, eight tourist resorts and six campsites. In recent years, its investments have been focused on the construction of high class hotels. This year, a large investment project worth more than EUR 94 million was completed – Grand Hotel Park in Rovinj, with its five above-ground and two underground floors, is fully integrated into its immediate surroundings. Considering the hotel’s rating, special attention was given to offering a high level of security combined with a need for discretion, i.e. the elements of the system had to be integrated into an architectural design so that the hotel may fit well with its surroundings. Alarm automatika accepted this challenge and provided the hotel with the security systems which were fully adapted to this type of environment. In terms of security, the most important requirement was the integration and centralized management of all security systems, which was implemented with the help of the ABSistemDCi software developed by Alarm automatika. In addition, the systems themselves were integrated, so that the anti-burglary system was integrated with the smart room one and tasked with the management of energy and consumption. Access to the parking lot is controlled with the help of LPR cameras operated with the help of ABsistemPark solution which is integrated with the reception desk software.

Renata Dončević is the general manager and a member of the project management department at Alarm automatika. Over the years, she has gained substantial experience in designing and managing security projects. She has been working at Alarm automatika in Rijeka since 1999. Prior to this, she worked as a technical department manager. She is an official design engineer and a member of the Croatian Chamber of Electrical Engineers. She is actively working on the promotion of security through the Croatian Security Association and other professional associations.

Hotel Marriot Skopje

As a part of the integrated security system, the following systems were installed on the site: Bosch automatic detection and fire alarm system, Bosch sound and evacuation system, Bosch access control system, Bosch IP video surveillance system, SD3 system for the automatic detection of CO and LPG, system for the automatic protection against thefts and attacks, Reacom panic protection system in SPA center, and BIS integration management system by Bosch. The central part of the security systems is the automatic detection and fire alarm system. It is tasked with monitoring and controlling the majority of other systems (monitoring of the sprinkler system, fire system flaps, monitoring of the Piranha fire suppression system, automatic control of anti-smoke system, ventilation system, automatic power shutdown in the kitchens, access control system, sound system etc.) The automatic detection and fire alarm system controls and monitors some 2000 locations.

Filip Boshkov holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Machine Intelligence and Robotics. During the studies, he participated in projects involving security systems, automation of industrial processes and network architecture. Before graduation, he became part of a technical support team at a telecommunication company. In April 2018, he landed a job with SECTRON Macedonia as a brand manager in charge of: video surveillance, network equipment, perimeter protection, access control, time & attendance, pre-sales and direct sales, and the preparation of security documentation for low and high-risk facilities.

Užice Safe City

CASE STUDY

In accordance with the long-term plan of the Republic of Serbia aimed at preventing violence, reducing the number of traffic accidents and increasing safety on roads and public areas, Dahua Technology responded to requests from the Ministry of Interior and other institutions by offering an integrated security system that enables the recording of traffic violations, surveillance of vehicles at all city entrances, tracking their speed at critical points and monitoring all important public areas. The focus was put on the monitoring center, which was adjusted to the needs of the project for easier and faster system management. The process of searching the database for recorded violations and finding the perpetrator was shortened to under one minute, which improved the police efficiency. Along with the implementation of the current Safe City projects, Dahua Technology tests and prepares new AI devices that will completely replace traditional systems for recording traffic violations and bring cities in Serbia closer to the global capitals that already use such prevention and
security systems.

Stojanović started his career as Technical Support Engineer at Orion Telekom, one of the leading private Internet service providers in Serbia. After that, he gained experience as part of the network infrastructure management and maintenance team working on mid-range and large systems, managing projects and working on integrated network and physical security systems. In 2016, he moved to Dahua Technology and continued to work as a Technical Support Engineer for Serbia and Montenegro, actively participating in security projects and conducting training and certification in accordance with the Dahua Technology program.

Van Hool of Belgium is a major bus manufacturer in Europe, offering a complete range of public transport buses for international markets. Since 2012, Van Hool has been present in the Republic of North Macedonia with its large assembling factory covering 80.000 m². Its current production capacity is 800 buses per year and the company has some 1200 employees. From the outset of the factory construction, Sensor was selected for the implementation of integrated systems such as technical security, automation and BMS systems. Its expertise garnered throughout the years allowed it to become capable of implementing and maintaining security and automation systems for more than seven years now, which proves the confidence and loyalty of the customers which respond to its professionalism. Sensor’s engineers and technicians from different fields work closely in project groups, turning ideas into intelligent and technically and economically viable solutions that are tailored to its customers’ demands. As a part of the security system integration, Sensor implemented fire detection and video surveillance systems from Bosch, automation and BMS system from Johnson Controls, and smoke extraction system from GEZE. It is constantly upgrading and maintaining these system to achieve the best possible functionality.

Railway Freight Station Koper

Slovenian Railways is the sole railway network operator in Slovenia. Employing almost 8.000 people, the company has 8 different divisions, covering all fields of logistics – people transportation, logistics of goods, infrastructure division etc. One of its core activities involves the transportation of goods and the provision of logistical services ranging from the Port of Koper to the rest of Europe. Freight station in Koper is one of the largest logistical centers in Slovenia. Millions of tons of various goods are transported by trains to different locations in Europe. When the trains are loaded, they usually remain on station overnight before they depart on the following day. Since the trains on the station are an easy target, they face higher crime-related risks, prompting the authorities to try to minimize them. So, how can one protect the area covering 625.000 m 2 and 1300 m in length? Due to high voltage, railway tracks and the existing infrastructure, available installation options were rather limited. The presentation will deal with the pilot project for active outdoor protection of large areas, which involves the use of AI and video verification.

Rok Bajec is the general manager, owner and a member of the project management department at MOBICOM. Over the years, he has gained substantial experience in designing and managing security projects. He has been working in the security field since 1990, with much of his professional expertise being derived from working with CCTV technology. He started out at Dallmeier in 1995, attending technical and designer trainings provided by Samsung, Sony, Pelco, Dahua and many others. After almost 30 years in the field of security, he is quite familiar with global outlooks and the major global players.

Waterworks and Sewerage Public Utility Company in Novi Sad

Novi Sad is the largest city in Vojvodina and the second largest one in Serbia, with between 300 and 400 thousand inhabitants. Until the end of the 19th century, the inhabitants of Novi Sad drank water from the Danube or drilled wells. The first deep sub-artesian wells were drilled in 1895. Today, the capacity of the water supply system is about 130,000 m3/day. The Waterworks and Sewerage Public Utility Company (PUC) is responsible for the water quality in the mains up to the measuring instruments (water meter). This is a high-risk facility and a part of critical infrastructure whose integrated protection includes anti-terrorist protective measures and monitoring and control of the access to the Waterworks and Sewerage facilities. The security solution integrates several electronic security systems into a single system which is easily managed by an authorized person.

Franjo Tuđman Airport

CASE STUDY

Opting for the adequate built-in Penton loudspeakers and audio signal processing with IDA8C resulted in a high quality audibility and intelligibility in the area of ​​the Franjo Tuđman Airport. The system had to meet the requirements of phased evacuation in accordance with the Emergency
Evacuation Plan, while taking into account the public address component consistent with the passenger flow plan. The system had to meet the European EN54 standard requirements, and is the only one in the passenger area tasked with providing voice alarm in the event of a fire. During the implementation, some changes to the project were made based on the area acoustics. In the check-in, departure gate and baggage reclaim areas, simulations made with the Ease program delivered the unsatisfactory results. After consultations with the architects and placement of the speakers on defined locations, we obtained the results in line with the requirements, whereby the original design of the architects who won the international competition was kept intact.

An IRIS addressable fire system with devices from Teletek Electronics has been chosen to protect the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Bulgaria and NATO Force Integration Units (NFIUs) Headquarters in Sofia, Bulgaria. The massive building (9000 sq.m) is popularly known as the Bulgarian Pentagon and it also accommodates the headquarters of the Infantry, the Air Force, and the Military Police. The project was to upgrade the building’s fire detection system, which included full rewiring of the system. It had to be undertaken while the building was fully occupied and without causing any disruption to the operations at the Ministry. The new fire detection system provides comprehensive protection for all of ten floors of the Ministry’s headquarters and comprises 9 addressable fire panels in a network with approximately 3500 devices monitored by Teletek Electronics’ Observer software. The system also interfaces with critical equipment covering 9 evacuation exits, 6 lifts, air conditioning, all electrical panels and access control system. It was handed over to the client with full Civil Defense approval.

Cyber security must be prioritized. Hackers have been regularly scanning targets for easy access points. Poorly deployed sensors, CCTV cameras or access control systems are the way to enter a network. Less than 30% of producers have implemented cybersecurity measures. What do we risk? A loss of productivity, theft of valuable data, ransom payment demand and much more. Prima was part of the investigation by the Dutch company Applied Risk. Security researcher Gjoko Krstic analysed Prima’s software binaries of an upgrade package and managed to find some vulnerabilities. This triggered immediate effort to fix vulnerabilities and put even more focus on making our solution cyber secure. We have cooperated with CISA, part of the US Department of Homeland Security, maintaining the “National Cyber Awareness System”. Prima will share its story and highlight the characteristics that need to be addressed in IoT (in this case access control system) or similar systems connected to the network. Customers, project designers and installers need to be aware of the cyber security risk and start asking difficult questions of high-level security. The new standard IEC 62443 that helps our industry be better at cyber security will be addressed as well.

With his specialized skills in embedded development and network protocols, he was a major contributor to the access control solution for Reem Island Abu Dhabi (a 30 bn USD investment project), a technically advanced solution for Danish Biofos, a recent reference project for Fraport Slovenia and many other projects.

Apollonia Casino

The old CCTV system at the Apollonia Casino evolved together with various technologies which have become available over the past 20 years, with predominantly analog technologies from different vendors. Recently, the casino management decided to expand their operating building and upgrade the video surveillance system. Since the casinos are among the most complex environments, the designer’s job was not easy at all. There were concerns that the stakes were too high, just like the traffic, in addition to the gaming law requirements being too strict and requiring compliance with the GDPR. Nowadays, cyber security is more challenging than ever before, with these environments featuring highly dynamic lighting conditions, mandatory synchronization of audio and video feeds for live gaming areas and the need for continuous flexibility (re-positioning of the cameras). After limiting the selection of available solutions on the market, the casino management decided on the right solution by creating a demo environment and installing a demo system. Technology offered by Avigilon was chosen based on the fastest response time and the use of its revolutionary VMS platform which offers a high level of details in the scenes and sophisticated deep learning and artificial intelligence with live monitoring. The system keeps focusing on the relevant events only and offers access to the search engine that can go through the hours of footage with ease and quickly locate a specific person or vehicle of interest across the entire system.

Marijo Kolovrat graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Skopje, Macedonia, in 2005. He specialized in the electronics and telecommunication fields. His career in the video surveillance industry started out 14 years ago in Macedonia. He gained valuable experience in all aspects of security business at Proalarm company from Croatia, at which he worked as the CTO for almost 7 years. In late 2012, he landed a job with Avigilon. In 2014, he started managing the sales engineering teams from the Southern Europe and Russia/CIS, while mentoring new hires involved in all mission-critical designs covering more than 40 countries. In early 2016, he was promoted to the post of the Application Engineering Manager for the EMEA region and became involved in the complex and mission-critical projects. In 2017, he assumed the role of the Avigilon Sales Manager in charge of the Balkan region, managing a strong partner channel in 7 countries and driving business to the next level with doubled growth.

ANTEA Cement

NAME OF THE PROJECT: ANTEA Cement: Complete Upgrade of CCTV System with Central Monitoring and Management

ANTEA Cement is a part of the TITAN Group and has an annual production capacity of 1.4 million tons of cement and 3.300 tons of clinker per day. The plant is located at Boka e Kuqe, Borizane, some 50 km from Tirana, the capital of Albania. The plant does not serve only the local market since it exports clinker and cement to Egypt, Montenegro, Libya and Italy. The factory was commissioned in 2010 with a preinstalled analog video surveillance system which offered little to no analytics that might assist the 50+ security personnel on site. ANTEA Cement asked NIKOB to provide a solution which was to be designed and presented for video surveillance and access control system that could provide centralized management with real-time monitoring and camera control. NIKOB has successfully designed and implemented an integrated security solution featuring: video surveillance with Full HD cameras covering a perimeter of more than 5 km; video surveillance with speed dome cameras providing logistical support to the security personnel for the perimeter and ground protection; thermal speed dome cameras providing logistical support to the security personnel for the perimeter and ground protection as well as real-time temperature readings for crucial infrastructure such as cooling tower for the electrical power substation; automatic license plate recognition for controlling vehicular access to the factory grounds; access control for double side control of more than 80 high-security doors on the factory grounds; time and attendance system for employee payroll.

Kiril Lazarov is an electronics engineer, general manager and owner of NIKOB. He has more than 15 years of experience with providing security services and implementing integrated security systems and solutions. As the general manager of NIKOB, he oversaw the growth of NIKOB from 500 to 2.000 employees over the past 9 years. In addition, he initiated and spearheaded the establishment of a new security system integration department that currently employs 40+ skilled installers and engineers.
