Port of Koper is a specially designated and protected area according to Slovenian laws. For years, it has used the Time & Space time and attendance solution provided by Spica International. However, it also used an access control system provided by a third party manufacturer. In the meantime, the system has become obsolete and impractical for use, with difficulties related to updating the software and upgrading the system. The situation is further aggravated by the protracted delivery of spare parts. The port needed a modern and simple solution that would allow for the necessary expansion of the system and meet its special needs along with the existing requirements regarding the size of the system and the flow of a large number of people and vehicles. A contractor with a dedicated department for the development of client-specific solutions and top-notch software and hardware support was hired.
Tone Stanovnik is a co-founder and the executive director of Spica International. With its investment in continuous development of new solutions and focus on guidelines and new technologies in the field of IT systems, this company achieved remarkable developmental, financial and export-related results. Tone Stanovnik has a degree in electrical engineering. After the studies, he started working at Mikrohit, the first company in Slovenia to start dealing with microcomputers. He is an expert in the domain of the systems based on automatic identification technologies, and is considered to be one of the pioneers in that field in Slovenia. He is known for his modern approach to management and corporate governance, and at the same time he is an active promoter and driving force in the sector of Slovenian export-oriented ICT companies. Stanovnik is a co-founder of the network of five Špica companies operating in the Adriatic region, and is currently in charge of strategic breakthrough in the CEE region.
CASE STUDY TITLE: Pančevo Oil Refinery Anti-Terrorist Protection

The multinational company Serbia Oil Industry has continuously invested in equipment and development of its Pančevo-based Oil Refinery. It is a high risk facility and it involves critical infrastructure whose integral security includes anti-terrorist measures to protect and control of entry points into the refinery. Access onto the refinery’s grounds by tank trucks and other heavy vehicles poses a critical security challenge and Alarm Automatika has designed a solution aimed at preventing unauthorized vehicle entry or terrorist attack using vehicles. The solution integrates construction, electromechanical, hydraulic, and electronic elements of the system, as well as the horizontal and vertical traffic signalization. Special anti-terrorism barriers embedded in the access road can efficiently stop even the heaviest trucks. They are connected to the automated ramp system, traffic lights, detectors and LPR cameras, which altogether makes an effective safety stop and vehicle control system, which is easily managed by the security personnel.
Miroslav Ćirić is mechanical engineer with twenty years of experience of working at various management positions in Alarm Automatika in Rijeka. As the wholesale director in Croatia he gained experience in developing sales teams and partner network of installers. Since 2017 he has been in charge of project business development in regional markets where Alarm Automatika’s several companies operate.
